The order intake in July 2026 increased by a real 2 percent compared to the previous year. Growth impulses came primarily from abroad (up 4 percent), with orders from non-Euro countries standing out (up 5 percent). However, Euro partner countries also contributed slightly (up 1 percent) to the growth. In contrast, domestic business disappointed again with a decline in orders of 3 percent. 'In Germany, far too little is still being invested. This is also because the federal government has not yet consistently implemented the announced reforms to strengthen Germany as a location. However, mechanical engineering once again demonstrates its strengths in export business. The positive development of foreign orders reflects the recently improved business climate and is overall a pleasing signal for our industry,' says VDMA Chief Economist Dr. Johannes Gernandt.

In the less volatile three-month period from May to July 2026, orders overall increased by a real 8 percent. Domestic orders recorded a decline of 1 percent, while foreign orders rose by 11 percent. Orders from non-Euro countries increased by 23 percent, while Euro countries were 13 percent below the previous year's period. In the entire year-to-date (January to July 2026), there is an order increase of a real 5 percent.
