In the production of high-precision cutting tools, every detail is crucial – especially a process-safe, temperature-stable fine filtration of the cooling lubricants (KSS). Even slight temperature fluctuations in the manufacturing process can significantly affect the quality of the tools. With state-of-the-art filtration and cooling technology, the filter manufacturer Vomat from Treuen ensures that tool manufacturers can consistently meet the highest quality requirements.

The precise coordination of cooling lubricants and their fine filtration plays a central role in today's tool manufacturing. Only under optimal production conditions can the increasing demands for dimensional accuracy, surface quality, and tool life be met. Steffen Strobel, technical sales manager at the filter manufacturer Vomat from Treuen, emphasizes: “Tool manufacturers face the challenge of combining high investments in grinding technology with growing sustainability demands and economic pressure.
To achieve consistently high quality even in the final machining – the crucial, shaping process step – the use of the latest technologies is essential. This is especially true for the fine filtration of cooling lubricants in the overall system of tool grinding. No compromises can be made here. Those who remain technologically on par secure a long-term quality advantage and competitiveness. Our Vomat systems offer powerful, future-proof solutions for this.
From individual systems to central large systems, Vomat's customized fine filtration systems separate dirty and clean oil 100 percent in full flow – with a purity according to NAS 7 (3–5 µm). Demand-oriented full-flow filtration in backwash mode with automatic cycles depending on the dirt load, regulated filter pumps (positive energy balance), and state-of-the-art cooling and disposal technology ensure economic and ecological success. “Many grinding companies rely on the highest precision in tool grinding. But what about the accuracy of grinding oil and ambient temperature?
Therefore: Precision does not start at the workpiece – but with the right conditions! Modern grinding systems are sensitive to even the slightest temperature fluctuations,” says Steffen Strobel. “Even minimal deviations can have significant effects. They can impair dimensional accuracy and surface quality, shorten tool life, and destabilize the process. With Vomat technology, we maintain grinding oil and ambient temperature to 0.2 °C accuracy – for consistent conditions, greater dimensional accuracy, longer tool life, and more stable production processes.
Innovative cooling concepts for constant temperature control
A key component of filtration technology, alongside high-performance filters, is cooling. It must be very powerful and adjustable in the smallest increments. Vomat offers various systems depending on the requirements.
For example, for machine types 120 to FA 240. Here, the cooling is optionally integrated as a plug-in unit into the filter system. This allows for easy disassembly and assembly on-site without service personnel. The evaporator is foldable and mounted in the filter hood, and the regulation accuracy is +/- 0.2 K. If cooling of the drive shafts, spindles, and motors is necessary, modular units can be connected to the filter system.
In addition, there are auxiliary devices or mounted units on the building's outer wall with evaporators or for external cooling for machine models FA 120 to 960. The cooling capacity ranges from 9 to 60 kW with a regulation accuracy of +/- 0.2 K at ambient temperatures of 15°C to 35°C. Optionally, precise room temperature control is possible.
An example of a cold water-operated solution with an external water circuit is the KWS 250 chiller with an integrated cooler circulation pump and compact Eaton control. It has a cooling capacity of 250 kW for brine operation. The regulation accuracy is +/-1.0 K. The modular chiller, which does not require a buffer storage tank, is also suitable for outdoor installation in industrial areas. The dimensions are 2200 x 1900 x 2700 mm (W x L x H). The KWS 250 particularly stands out for its performance capability and energy efficiency. According to Vomat, the chiller consumes up to 62 percent less energy compared to conventional systems.
Steffen Strobel: “The demands on modern precision tools leave no room for compromise. Vomat enables tool manufacturers to deliver top quality reliably and reproducibly with temperature-stable fine filtration technology and high regulation accuracy of cooling – thus maintaining a competitive edge in the long term. In addition to technical precision, Vomat systems also score points in terms of efficiency and environmental friendliness. The long usability of the KSS in the system, low energy consumption, and a well-thought-out disposal concept make the technology an economically and ecologically sustainable solution.
