The choice of the appropriate fine filtration system plays a central role in the success of metal processing. High-quality cooling lubricants and their efficient filtration are crucial for top product quality, cost-effectiveness, and a smooth production process. The filter manufacturer Vomat from Treuen offers powerful filter technologies for this purpose. Thanks to the flexible FA machine concepts, customer-specific solutions can be realized, for example, through optional modules such as special cooling systems for temperature-optimized KSS fine filtration.
KSS fine filtration during tool grinding offers users clear advantages: The cleaner the grinding oil and the less frequently a change is required, the more KSS costs are reduced. At the same time, tool costs and machine downtime decrease. Surface quality also improves, while the environment and resources are preserved through a positive energy balance and reduced waste. Steffen Strobel, Sales Manager at Vomat, explains: 'The choice of the appropriate filtration and cooling has a direct impact on production costs. Our systems are designed to help manufacturers optimally utilize these cost advantages.'

Vomat filters separate dirty and clean oil in a full-flow process 100 percent. During the demand-oriented backflushing of the filter elements, permanently clean oil in the quality class NAS 7-8 (3-5 µm) is available for the production process. This allows KSS to remain in the system significantly longer than with conventional filtration methods. Options such as internal, external, or spindle cooling, material disposal, additional tanks, and more enable an optimal complete system solution for the filtration processes for the individual application case.
Steffen Strobel: 'To produce high-performance cutting tools, tool manufacturers invest considerable effort. This is because production conditions now have a significant impact on the end quality of the tool. This ranges from temperature-stabilized manufacturing conditions to state-of-the-art fully automated hardware and software for grinding to automated testing and measurement concepts. A crucial piece of the puzzle for consistently reproducible premium quality in large series is the temperature-optimized fine filtration of the KSS.'
Reliable continuous operation through KSS cooling
In continuous operation, the KSS is continuously cooled during fine filtration. Vomat offers various solutions for this. For the FA 120 - 240 series, the liquefier is mounted in the cover of the filter system or optionally as an external liquefier, which is mounted on the building's outer wall with a switch function for inside/outside. The control accuracy is +/- 0.2 K at an ambient temperature of 15-35°C with a cooling capacity of 9 to 40 kW. Additionally, the cooling of the drive shafts can be coupled as a modular unit to the filter system. Steffen Strobel emphasizes: 'The precise temperature setting gives the tool grinder the necessary security in the micro range that there are only minimal temperature fluctuations. This allows him to produce consistently high quality within the required tolerance fields.'
Additionally, Vomat offers external cooling devices with liquefiers that achieve a cooling capacity between 9 and 60 kW. Another option is the individually adjustable cold water cooling with an external water circuit. If necessary, modular units for cooling drive shafts, spindles, and motors can be connected to the filter system.
Steffen Strobel: 'Our systems are designed as solutions for individual applications, modular systems, and central systems. Thanks to their advantages, they represent a powerful alternative to conventional filter systems in the metal processing industry. If the tool manufacturer uses state-of-the-art grinding technology, our filtration technology with high control accuracy gives him the assurance of consistently high tool quality produced safely in the process.'
