The Schröder Group has revamped its popular PowerBend Industrial, making it even more robust and faster with a new bending beam and a more efficient drive system. The opening height of the upper beam has been increased to 850 mm, allowing for tools up to 400 mm in height. The PowerBend Industrial is available in two versions: with a working length of 4000 mm for steel sheets up to 5 mm thick and the 3200 mm version, which bends 6 mm steel sheets. Originally, the Schröder Group closed the gap between its high-end swing bending machines and the thin sheet machines with the introduction of the PowerBend Industrial in 2016.

The new bending beam features an even stiffer design with improved force distribution, increasing precision. An optimized kinematics, for example when switching from positive to negative bends, results in shorter cycle times and improved bending quality – even with complex geometries. Setup times for changing bending beam tools have also been significantly reduced through a quick-change system.

New drive system

The PowerBend Industrial has been equipped with more energy-efficient servo drives with higher dynamics. In some areas, the developers found opportunities to use wear-resistant components that will reduce maintenance efforts in the long run. An intelligent production feedback system has also been introduced, which will be utilized in automation and digitalization projects in the context of Industry 4.0.

"We expect the revision of the PowerBend Industrial to significantly increase productivity, especially for medium to high quantities," says Thomas Ostermair, Sales Manager of the Schröder Group. "We also see improved bending quality with demanding materials such as stainless steel and high-strength sheets. Ultimately, efficiency and ease of maintenance will reduce operating costs for users."

Popular features

With the now standard up-and-down bending beam and the optional suction plate stop as an extension of the back stop, the number of manual interventions is minimized. The combination of both techniques allows the sheet to be placed against the horizontally aligned bending beam and fixed with the suction plate stop. Subsequently, the suction plate stop positions the sheet for all bends on the applied side – thanks to the up-and-down bending beam with bending and counter-bending, and without further intervention from the machine operator. Functions such as radius step bending for stepwise, precise bending of curves and the hydraulic upper beam tool clamping with LED tool position indicator for quick tool changes further expand the application possibilities. If necessary, sheets can also be clamped from the front – a processing variant used in many manufacturing companies for narrow sheets and profiles. To make this highly efficient application even more comfortable in practice, the PowerBend Industrial is equipped with a touchscreen on the pivoting gantry.

The PowerBend Industrial will be showcased at Blechexpo at booth 1804 in Hall 1 in the version with a usable length of 4000 mm x 5.0 mm.
