Applications for medical technology are highly valued at Aerotech. For decades, the specialist for innovative motion control solutions and positioning systems has supplied manufacturers worldwide with components and complete subsystems. The Medical Technology Germany in Ulm now offers a great opportunity to present to the professional audience. Included: The latest generation of the linear and rotational motion platform LaserTurn 160 Gen 2.

“We also participated in the Medical Technology in Ireland and are convinced of the trade fair concept of a specialized exhibition and accompanying conference. We are even more pleased that the event is now taking place for the first time in Germany,” says Stephan Schech, Managing Director of Aerotech GmbH.
The fair is aimed at the entire supply chain of medical devices - from development to the finished product. The organizers deliberately focus on smaller, standardized exhibition stands starting from 4m², to enable smaller medical technology manufacturers - for example from the Black Forest - to participate in the specialist event.
This concept fits perfectly with Aerotech as a supplier of components and systems: “Among our customers in the medical technology sector are both large manufacturers and many medium-sized manufacturing companies and SMEs,” emphasizes Managing Director Stephan Schech.
Linear and rotational motion platform for cylindrical laser processing

The standardized exhibition stands leave no room for large positioning systems - a circumstance that plays in favor of Aerotech. “Our LaserTurn 160 platform is perfectly suited for such a fair: Despite its compact design, it allows us to excellently demonstrate our wide range of applications and our expertise in laser processing and motion control,” is the conviction of the Aerotech Managing Director.
The second generation LaserTurn 160 is aimed at manufacturers who produce and process cylindrical workpieces. New features include an optional simplified cable management system (CMS). The optional rotational upgrade ASR1300 also enables higher processing speeds and the precise manufacturing of tubes with diameters of up to 4 mm.
Another advantage: The new platform allows for the shared use of components with the ANT130L and can be supplemented with optional elements such as a cost-effective alignment gripper. According to Aerotech, users from the medical technology sector benefit from higher product quality and increased efficiency - and thus from a sustainably optimized cost structure.
Laser-cut cylindrical medical products are used in a variety of medical applications - including structural heart components, coronary and neurovascular stents, peripheral vascular devices, and instruments for minimally invasive procedures. These products, mostly made from raw materials, replace damaged heart valves, keep blood vessels open, or are used in the treatment of aneurysms and in surgery. Their sizes range from a few millimeters to over a meter in length.
Lecture on improving the laser processing of medical products
How high-precision laser processing combined with suitable components can sustainably increase production quality and efficiency is explained by Brian Fink in his lecture at the accompanying specialist conference. Fink is a product manager for stages, motors, hexapods, and other mechanical components at Aerotech Inc. In his presentation, he first provides an overview of the manufacturing of cylindrical medical products, highlights specific application scenarios, and presents fundamental strategies for optimizing laser cutting systems and avoiding typical errors.
