Additionally, customers can visit the factory to see automation solutions, the digital networking of machines, and data-driven production. The investment amount is around 40 million US dollars.
Additional technology and demonstration opportunities

The state-of-the-art machine tools manufactured in Farmington by TRUMPF are used in the production of metal components for cars, airplanes, agricultural machines, or fitness equipment. 'The future requires smarter, more interconnected, and more competitive manufacturing. Now is the time for companies to improve their production methods and further develop their workforce.'
'We support companies across North America by providing manufacturing technologies and services,' said Lutz Labisch, President and CEO of TRUMPF in the USA. The Smart Factory expands the current production areas on-site by around 5,200 square meters and houses not only laser cutting machines but also bending machines and welding equipment.
Local-for-Local strategy

The Smart Factory is part of a continuous 'Local-for-Local' strategy for production in the state of Connecticut, where the company has been represented since 1969. TRUMPF manufactures all its laser cutting machines and associated automation solutions for the North American market in Farmington and has recently commissioned a new production line for the manufacture of laser tube cutting machines.
New design for production
The building designed by the Berlin architecture firm Barkow Leibinger is modern and sustainable. The windows are equipped with special 'Smart Glass'. They allow more or less visibility into the building as needed, provide UV protection, and create a pleasant climate inside. To enable as sustainable production as possible in the future, the roof of the new building is designed for the installation of solar panels.
