In industrial material processing, ring-core laser beam profiles are increasingly used. By varying power densities in the core and ring, materials can be processed more efficiently. At Euroblech in Hanover, MKS Inc. (NASDAQ: MKSI) is presenting beam analysis software for the first time that reliably and repeatably analyzes laser beams with a ring-core beam profile. The Ophir Ring-Core BeamGage software is based on Ophir BeamGage Professional, the industry's most advanced beam analysis software. The Ophir Ring-Core BeamGage software creates a 'Polar Chart' that allows for precise alignment and adjustment between the ring and core. Critical parameters such as power ratio, diameter, and centroids can be determined separately for the ring and core or combined in real-time. The gap size between the ring and core is also displayed. The Ophir Ring-Core BeamGage software is compatible with most Ophir beam profile cameras and the Ophir BeamPeek beam profile analysis system.

'Ring-Core Lasers Open New Possibilities in Material Processing,' believes Sven Kern, MKS Regional Sales Manager for Ophir Products. 'For instance, they create a significantly more stable keyhole during welding, thereby reducing spatter, contamination of optics, and rework. Users benefit from higher welding speeds, fewer interruptions, and less rework effort. To achieve these advantages sustainably and reproducibly, the ring and core of the laser beam must be precisely aligned. The Ophir Ring-Core BeamGage software provides the necessary measurement data. Users can optimize their laser processes faster, securely define process windows, and ensure consistently high component quality.'

The Ophir Ring-Core BeamGage software is based on Ultracal, MKS's proprietary baseline correction algorithm, which has significantly contributed to the establishment of the ISO 11146-3 standard for the accuracy of beam measurement. The software offers advanced image processing capabilities, NIST-traceable power measurements, trend charts, data logging, production tests with pass/fail evaluation, and multilingual support.
