Industrial robots today operate at ever-increasing speeds, with complex motion profiles and in increasingly confined spaces. Robot cables must not only allow for the smallest bending radii but also reliably withstand millions of torsional movements. To meet these high demands, igus has developed its proven robot cable series CFROBOT8.PLUS and is now expanding it with a new DeviceNet cable for applications with ±360°/m torsion.

High flexibility, long service life, and interference-free data transmission: Cables must perform at their best in modern robotic systems. The CFROBOT8.PLUS series from igus meets these requirements exactly. It is designed for torsional movements of up to ±360°/m and achieves a guaranteed service life of ten million cycles. 'This is made possible by a special braid of the shielding structure, which resembles a knitted pattern and thus creates more freedom of movement,' explains Rainer Rüssel, head of the chainflex cables division at igus. 'Additionally, we were able to significantly reduce the outer diameter of the cables compared to the previous series CFROBOT8 – depending on the version by up to 21 percent. This is especially a crucial advantage for applications in confined spaces.'

New DeviceNet cable for secure data transmission

With the new CFROBOT8.PLUS.030, igus expands the CFROBOT8.PLUS series with a bus cable for the established DeviceNet system. It was developed for use in highly dynamic applications such as six-axis robots, handling systems, or spindle drives. The torsion-resistant overall shield made of tinned copper braid ensures reliable shielding and guarantees stable and interference-free data transmission – even under extreme mechanical loads. Furthermore, the cable is oil and UV resistant, making it suitable for both indoor and outdoor use.

In addition to classic robotic applications, the cables can also be used in machine tools or other torsion-loaded applications. Freely suspended applications, such as movable terminals, can also be realized. This provides users with a portfolio for all common bus systems, including Profinet, Profibus, CAN bus, and Ethernet applications up to CAT7. The CFROBOT8.PLUS cables are available from stock and can be ordered from a length of one meter, without minimum order surcharge, cutting, or packaging costs. Upon request, igus also delivers the cables ready-to-connect as pre-assembled readycable.

Tested millions of times in the test lab

Like all chainflex cables, the CFROBOT8.PLUS series is extensively tested in the 5,500 square meter igus test lab. Real motion profiles are simulated in combination with three-dimensional triflex robot energy chains from igus. This ensures that the cables function reliably even under extreme operating conditions. Tests have already shown that the electrical properties of Ethernet communication were still fully in the green zone even after more than 15 million cycles. The collected test data is used in online tools for service life calculation and forms the basis for the world's unique four-year guarantee on the market. Users thus gain high planning security and can economically optimize their application. The CFROBOT8.PLUS series from igus offers a powerful and durable solution that meets the challenges of modern industrial applications.
