Today, the INDEX Group, with its brands INDEX and TRAUB, is one of the world's leading manufacturers of CNC lathes. With six production sites and six international sales and service companies, as well as a wide dealer network, the Esslingen-based company is present at 80 locations worldwide.
Progress has a long tradition
The INDEX works were founded in 1914 by Hermann Hahn, who began producing turret lathes that year. He was a Swabian entrepreneur with creative ideas and a commitment to quality, laying the foundation for impressive development. Within four decades, more than 20,000 lathes had been sold, on which INDEX's excellent global reputation is based. In 1975, INDEX began producing multi-spindle lathes. A few years later, the company entered CNC technology, quickly taking a pioneering role. After the death of Eugen Hahn, the founder's son, 85% of the company's shares were transferred to a foundation. In 1992, INDEX introduced a new generation of turning-milling centers based on a modular system. In 1997, TRAUB Drehmaschinen GmbH & Co. KG from the neighboring Reichenbach/Fils was acquired and integrated into the INDEX Group. To this day, the company pursues a dual-brand strategy.

INDEX and TRAUB consciously rely on the production location in Germany and manufacture important core components on their own lathes and turning-milling centers. Motivated and well-trained employees produce quality and build each machine with care and attention to detail. The company promotes its employees and provides intensive training through education and further training measures. Considerable effort is also invested in training the next generation.
