Following the introduction of the high-speed variable pump A3V2Q with a nominal size of 45 cm3, Bosch Rexroth is expanding its medium pressure program to include the nominal size of 90 cm3. With the new 2-quadrant pump A3V2Q090, flow rates of up to 286 l/min are possible. The A3V pump platform provides significant efficiency gains: In presses, injection molding machines, and other cyclical applications, it saves up to 70 percent energy compared to systems with constant speed.

The A3V2Q features a significantly higher efficiency than conventional medium pressure variable pumps. The high speeds reduce the required torque, allowing for downsizing of the electric drive. This combination enables a substantial reduction in energy consumption and a lower demand for resources.

In addition to energy savings through speed control, the servo motor-driven variable pumps allow for flexible adaptation to different operating conditions through their swivel angles, thus optimizing the energy balance in cyclical applications.

The self-priming variable pumps of the A3V series have been specifically developed for energy-efficient and cyclical applications. The hydrostatic drive is suitable for both pump and motor operation (regeneration). When the hydraulic pump is driven backward by the flowing medium, for example, when lowering a lift or counterholding a drawing pad, it can drive the coupled servo motor as a generator. The electricity generated through regeneration can then be used in the intermediate circuit for other working functions or fed back into the grid.

Furthermore, the regenerative capability of the variable pump shortens the cycle time. For example, in injection molding, the pressure drop after the holding phase is accelerated by controlled reverse rotation of the motor.

Downsizing Reduces Overall Costs

Through higher speeds, the A3V2Q variable pump enables the same flow rates with 30 percent less motor torque. This allows the servo motor to be downsized, reducing investment and operating costs. Additional downsizing potential arises from the demand-oriented adjustment of the delivery volume. By means of adjustment, the torque can be further reduced by an additional 30 percent in many cyclical applications. This also allows the converter to be downsized, saving additional energy and resources.

Optimal System Efficiency in All Operating Conditions

Energy efficiency in operation is crucial: The A3V2Q achieves an efficiency of over 91 percent in the optimal operating range. This represents an increase of up to five percentage points compared to previous medium pressure variable pumps. Since over 99 percent of the Product Carbon Footprint (PCF) occurs during the usage phase, this means a significant reduction in operating costs and a substantial decrease in emissions. For a medium-sized press, the savings can amount to 50 tons of CO2. Based on the average CO2 factor in Germany, this could allow an electric car to drive approximately 650,000 km.

Availability and Portfolio Expansion

The introduction of the new medium pressure pump A3V2Q090 is planned for the first half of 2027.
